The Pilotage Building opened in 1883 as the headquarters of the Liverpool Pilotage Service. The three storey building, which was probably designed by John Arthur Berrington, was converted in 1980 by the Building Design Partnership, along with sheds to the north, for museum use. It currently houses the Museum of Liverpool Life.
