Showing the Mersey Bar lightship in the middle distance. The Mersey Bar lightship, named the Planet, was commissioned in 1958 and launched in 1960. After serving at Bar Station, Liverpool Bay she was moved to several other location. The vessel was finally decommissioned and sold to a private owner in 1991. While located at Channel Station she was the last staffed vessel on this location, being automated in June 1989.
