Old lifeboat station at Porthoustock, now used as a village hall.
Built 1869 the station was used until 1942. The most notable rescue was in 1898, 14th October, when the steamship "Mohegan" struck the Manacle Rocks, en route to New York and immediately began to sink. The Porthoustock lifeboat was one of four lifeboats which attended, but none of the boats could find the steamship. The Porthoustock lifeboat managed to save 44 of the 51 survivors (100 people sadly died). (Leach N. 2013. Cornwall's Lifeboats p.37)
There are two iron arches in the ground which may relate to the lifeboat station, possible for moving the doors or the boat.
